Step by Step Self-Confidence Tips
Have you ever looked at a list of "10 Confidence Tips", only to find that each tip is way too big and scary for someone to try...unless they already were confident - in which case they wouldn't be looking for confidence tips would they? Our confidence-tips are different. They are all tiny little changes that no-one will notice - except you. Don't try them all at once - just start on the first couple and add to them once they've become second nature.
Confidence Tip No 1. - Learn how to accept compliments Don't put yourself down at every opportunity. The next time someone compliments something you're wearing or something you've achieved, just say thank-you very much. Don't try to wriggle out of it by pointing out how it was really someone else, or a mistake that you happened to be in the right place at the right time! You can talk about whatever it is, but not for too long...
Confidence Tip No 2. - Walk Tall Standing up straight and walking tall will make you appear more confident to other people. It will also make you feel full of confidence. The same goes for sitting up properly instead of slouching in a seat. The next time you are in a cafe, watch how other people walk and sit and notice how you perceive them.
Confidence Tip No 3. - Find a home for your keys Yes this does have something to do with confidence! How calm and collected do you feel when you arrive late for yet another appointment because you couldn't find your keys? Your task is to find a permanent place for your house/car keys and put them there every time you come home. ALWAYS! You will find you rarely have to arrive late in a fluster again.
Confidence Tip No4. - Don't flap unnecessarily Ok, we all know this one! When you're stressed out or can't remember what you're supposed to be doing next, you might go into a sort of headless chicken fluster mode! STOP doing it! Seriously, the next time you find yourself doing this, stop, and make yourself think calmly about what you need to do.
Confidence Tip No 5. - Get some daily positive influence Try to get yourself around some positive people for at least some time every day. You might be able to do this with friends or family you already know, or if not, by starting a hobby such as sports, amateur dramatics, taking an evening class or getting involved in some sort of community group. Even going to a quiz night with a group of friends could help if you are not going to get too competitive! Failing that, you can get your positive fix for the day by email. Our favourites are "Notes from the Universe" for confidence and motivation, and My Daily Insights for motivation and inspiration.
