Pamper

I was asked to a Body Shop® party recently.  I had forgotten all about it really, but was inspired by the philosophy behind it all.  Here are some of the reasons why we just love The Body Shop® (apart from having delicious products of course!)

The Body Shop is Against Animal Testing

None of us want to use products that have been tested on animals.  The Body Shop®'s products are all suitable for vegetarians too, so great if you are buying gifts for family or friends.

The Body Shop Supports Community Trade

Maybe even better than FairTrade, The Body Shop sources all sorts of natural ingredients from the people who grow them, and ensure fair wages are paid and that good working conditions are followed.  They estimate that 15,000 people in 24 countries around the world currently benefit when you buy their products labelled "Community Trade"

The Body Shop Activates Self Esteem

"Self-esteem is about self-awareness, self-confidence, self-worth, and self-acceptance. It's about respecting yourself, looking after your body and soul, and being proud of who and what you are."  This is exactly what we are trying to do with this website.  We want to look after ourselves for all the right reasons, to feel happy within ourselves, not to please others or to conform to other peoples expectations.

The Body Shop Defends Human Rights
They have a commitment to ethical trade and defending basic human rights in all their operations.

The Body Shop Protects our Planet
The Body Shop has a commitment to protecting the environment and supporting sustainable development.  For example, they use 30% recycled plastic in their plastic bottles which saves the equivalent of 9 million plastic bottles a year.

So how was the party?

The party was great fun actually.  It was far more fun to sit round in a group trying out the products and playing games than it is to visit one of the shops

What was your favourite product?

Something called lip and cheek shine.  It looks like a small pink lip gloss, but when applied to the cheeks it gives a really natural rosy glow.  The girl who had it applied to her was really pale and she looked fabulous with it on.

About The Body Shop

The Body Shop International plc is a global manufacturer and retailer of naturally inspired, ethically produced beauty and cosmetics products. Founded in the UK in 1976 by Dame Anita Roddick, they now have over 2,100 stores in 55 countries, with a range of over 1,200 products, all animal cruelty free, and many with fairly traded natural ingredients.

The Body Shop was the first international cosmetics brand to be awarded the Humane Cosmetics Standard for our Against Animal Testing policy. And they have their own fair trade programme called Community Trade, making them the only cosmetics company with such an extensive commitment to trading fairly. Community Trade now works with 31 suppliers in 24 countries, providing over 15,000 people across the globe with essential income to build their futures.

The Body Shop is a leader in the trend towards greater corporate transparency, and they have been a force for positive social and environmental change through their lobbying and campaigning programmes around our five core Values: Support Community Trade, Defend Human Rights, Against Animal Testing, Activate Self-Esteem, and Protect Our Planet.
