Building Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem for Women

How do so many women appear so confident all the time?  Is it genuine self confidence or just an act?

Do they really have a strong sense of self confidence or is it self esteem? Is there a difference?  Wikipedia says not...

"In psychology, self-esteem (also called self-worth, self-confidence, and self-respect) reflects a person's overall self-appraisal of their own worth".  But I'm not so sure.  After all, one can have a high level of self esteem and yet not be particularly confident in social situations for example.

The thing is, we all choose how to act (or react) in everyday situations all the time.  When we choose to consciously act in a particular way it is difficult at first, but if it is practised daily it can becomes a habit.

So how can we apply this to increase our levels of self confidence?  How about this to begin with... your first challenge is to learn to accept a compliment graciously.

The next time someone says they like your jumper/top/skirt,

don't say..."Oh this old thing",

don't say "I found it in the bargain shop for £3.50",

don't say "I had nothing else to wear".

DO say "Thank-you very much" and smile!  Then ask them something.  For more tips like this, please visit the confidence tips page.

There are many many websites dealing with confidence from a psychological point of view.  This website has more of a proactive self help approach.  It's really about helping you to find the real confident woman within.

Your quest to find your true confident woman within may cover many areas and will take some time and work to achieve. We will divide true confidence into four distinct areas, although there will be some overlap.  These will include what we will call "Inner Confidence", "Outer Confidence", "Confidence in Surroundings" and "Confidence in Circumstances".

Broadly speaking "Inner Confidence" is the psychological definition of confidence relating to how much you value yourself, "Outer Confidence" is how we present ourselves to the world (and yes it does make a difference), "Confidence in Surroundings" is how well organised you are within your home and work environment  (it's difficult to appear calm when you're late because you were ironing dry your only clean bra!) and "Confidence in Circumstances" relates to your sense of peace and fulfilment with your occupation, relationships and leisure activities.

If you lack confidence in everything or really don't know where to begin, start with "Inner Confidence".  Everything else will fall into place over time.  We promise!
